Background
Since 2004/05, the Vice Chancellor’s Cup of student Innovation (VCCI) has been held in The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to promote the culture of innovation amongst students, and to select innovative student projects for CUHK representation entry into national or international competitions.
To pay tribute to Professor Sir Charles K. Kao for his achievements and innovation in science and technologies and to commemorate his being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2009, the University has set up the Charles K. Kao Scholarship Endowment Fund through private donations. Professor Sir Kao was the Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1987 to 1996. He has spared no efforts in promoting and motivating creativity and innovation among students and within the University. The Committee on the Charles K. Kao Scholarship Endowment Fund has resolved that part of the Fund would be used to set up a Student Creativity Award Scheme with effect from the academic year 2010/11. As a result, VCCI was renamed as Professor Charles K. Kao Student Creativity Awards (PCKKSCA) 「高錕教授學生創意獎」since then.
Over the years, a number of VCCI as well as PCKKSCA projects were nominated to enter into the prestigious national competition amongst universities in China, the Challenge Cup. CUHK has attained outstanding results in the past National Challenge Cup events for 8 consecutive times.
